Welcome to West Horsley

West Horsley is a wonderful historic rural village and gateway to the Surrey Hills located between Guildford and Cobham. We first appeared in the Doomsday Book of 1086. We have many beautiful listed and historic houses including West Horsley Place, a medieval manor house dating back to 1425. In addition, we have an internationally renowned Opera House on the same grounds, Grange Park Opera. Our village location is on the A246, and south of the M25 and the A3. Our boundaries as a civil parish ascends to our ancient woodland “Sheepleas Woods” which are on the northern downslopes of hills known as the North Downs. The bulk of the village is north of the Surrey Hills AONB, the rest is within it. Our 500-year-old Oak tree marks the centre of our linear style village and network of countryside walks. Our transport network is South Western Railways via Horsley Station, 10 Mins to Guildford, 7 mins to Cobham, and we are only 45mins from London Waterloo Station.

Housing Needs Survey

CLICK HERE TO COMPLETE OUR SURVEY ONLINE

We would appreciate your help in shaping the future of housing in our village. Whether that is young people looking for their first home, older residents wishing to downsize, or families needing more space, understanding these needs is vital for our community.

West Horsley Parish Council and Guildford Borough Council have commissioned Surrey Community Action, a charity supporting rural communities, to carry out an independent Housing Needs Survey. The results will help us plan for local housing needs and may also provide information for future planning applications.

Do you know someone who would like to return to the parish? Perhaps friends who work here but now live elsewhere, or family members who moved away because they couldn’t afford to stay? If so, we’d like to hear from them too. Please ask them to complete the survey online, or to request a paper copy they can either email nicolad@surreyca.org.uk or call 01483 447141.

All responses are confidential to Surrey Community Action, and an anonymised report will be provided to the Parish Council. The survey closes on Monday 13 July 2026. For further information go to Housing Needs Survey 2026 - West Horsley Parish Council.

Thanking you in advance for your participation.

Parish Councillor Vacancy

West Horsley Parish Council currently has one vacancy for a Parish Councillor which we are keen to fill as soon as possible.

We are a dynamic Parish Council with a variety of interesting projects currently underway - from youth and community engagement to road safety and village appearance – so there is plenty to get involved with. However, we are particularly keen to hear from you if you have an interest or experience in planning, housing development and associated issues, as we are about to embark on the review and renewal of our Neighbourhood Plan.

Balance and diversity within the Council is important to us and we welcome applications from all interested parties.

For details of eligibility and how to apply please go to Becoming a Councillor - West Horsley Parish Council.

Deadline for applications is 31 July 2026.
